  • The East Coast -- September 27, 2002 - October 13, 2002

We’re three weeks into the Rousmaniere World Tour, on our US leg, writing from Charleston, South Carolina, where we’re enjoying Dana’s brother’s island tree house by the sea, eating Shacketizers and drinking Shackquiris at The Crab Shack down the street. We’re waxing up our surf boards, waiting to catch some killer waves. Needless to say, on our five-week anniversary of unemployment, we’ve done the post-work shake-it-off dance, recuperated from all the incredible send-off parties our Lycos, Varian, and Cape Ann friends threw for us, and are adjusting well to life on the road. (We think our neighbors were glad to finally see us go, after watching us hike up and down our street everyday, practicing carrying our packs on our backs.)

We spent the first week and a half of our trip visiting friends & family along the East Coast. After 10 days, we realized we’d gone over 1,000 miles and were only two hours from Gloucester. Figuring it would take us, oh… nine years to get around the world at this rate, we started high-tailing it for the southern climes.
